This I Believe Truth, Value and the Personal Experience called Drum Corps

2007 The Cadets- 5th place. Written 02/04/2025.

I think I made the right choice.

A wildly underrated show. I see so many people make fun of the narration or not talk about the show outside of the Rose Bowl incident (I'm not even going INTO that thing on here). It deserves to be discussed more often! Sure, the narration can be a bit much, but it's all about the love for the art form!!

Repertoire

Symphonic Movement by Václav Nelhýbel
Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli
Adiemus II - Cantata Mundi by Karl Jenkins

It's very theatrical, but the show captures the whimsy of it so well! The music I wouldn't change at all, and neither would I change the narration! I genuinely think it's really emotional at some points, and the cheesiness adds to it in some places!! Gets so much shit for no reason, I'll defend it with my life.

Music

It's such solid playing, goddamn. The show gets so much flack for the narration, but if you look just beneath it you find a technically fantastic show! The brass hits are hype as hell, and the trumpet solos during the closer make me a little tearyeyed. I love the solos in general!!

Visuals

Visually, it's so pretty! It's not overtly complex drill, but it's performed well and I find it really enjoyable. I also love the detail of members facing the audience when speaking and turning around quick for their set- I know it doesn't seem like much, but I think it's cute!
