This I Believe Truth, Value and the Personal Experience called Drum Corps

2007 The Cadets- 5th place. Written 02/04/2025.

I think I made the right choice.

A wildly underrated show. I see so many people make fun of the narration or not talk about the show outside of the Rose Bowl incident (I'm not even going INTO that thing on here). It deserves to be discussed more often! Sure, the narration can be a bit much, but it's all about the love for the art form!!

Repertoire

Symphonic Movement by Václav Nelhýbel
Blue Shades by Frank Ticheli
Adiemus II - Cantata Mundi by Karl Jenkins

It's very theatrical, but the show captures the whimsy of it so well! The music I wouldn't change at all, and neither would I change the narration! I genuinely think it's really emotional at some points, and the cheesiness adds to it in some places!!

Music

Easily the best brass of 2024, in my opinion. Especially about 4-5 minutes into the performance, whenever they switch their pieces so quickly. To be able to switch your style completely in a moment like that is such a goddamn feat! However they're running BAC, I need to be trained like that on my mello. Not to mention that screamer- they had me and my friend's jaw DROPPED when we first heard it. No lie, at finals we just started texting our high brass group chat "THE TRUMPEEETTTT.... THE TRUMPPEETTTTT...". It was fantastic.

Visuals

The best use of uniforms I've ever seen. Not only are the uniforms themselves pretty, but the color sorting ? I started tearing up just for my love of this art form. The hoops used by brass/color guard were sick, though I do wish they had some sort of larger props. I think if tasteful it could've added so much to the show! I did lose my mind whenever their shakos lit up, I just love use of light in shows. It should be so much more commonplace!!
